Did you know?
- We have over 30 different ecosystems in Oklahoma.
- We have the third largest Native American population in the U.S.
- We have some famous people from here?
Mickey Mantle, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Vince Gill, James Garner, Chuck Norris, Sam Walton, Ron Howard, Dr. Phil and even Brad Pitt are some of the famous people born or raised in Oklahoma, just to name a few! A few still reside and have businesses here.
Did you know that our Oklahoma City Zoo was founded in 1902, five years before we were a state! Our statehood was in 1907.
The town of Guthrie was the Territorial Capital of Oklahoma. In 1910 the government requested a vote of the people to possibly have the state seal moved to Oklahoma City. The night of the vote, someone stole the seal from Guthrie and took it to Oklahoma City to deem it the State Capital! Also, our state capital has an active oil well on the front lawn and some of the granite in the area is Oklahoma pink & black granite!
Do you like antiques? Guthrie, Oklahoma north of Oklahoma City is the best place to get antiques. I have gotten some pretty cool amateur radio antiques there. There are Victorian houses there as well as many great Bed & Breakfasts.
We have an area in Oklahoma City called The Adventure District, with our zoo & many museums. I will share on that on another day.
